Among all the creatures in the animal kingdom, bats have had a bad reputation. Denizens of the world of darkness, they have been regarded as forces of evil – imperfect and ugly.
But scientists today see bats in a totally different light. They marvel at the extraordinary skills of these much-maligned animals. Thanks to their ability to emit and analyze ultrasound, they can detect objects as thin as a human hair. How they are able to fly and hunt the tiniest prey in total darkness using "echo-location" fascinates researchers.
" Superbat " will explore this " sixth sense " that bats have mastered over the eons – a talent that could revolutionize submarine sonar and robots’ acoustic vision, and forge 21st century tools for the visually-impaired.
With reality and fictional sequences, our cameras will follow echo-location specialists from the night forests to the caves and underground laboratories where they have been studying and attempting to replicate bats’ special skills. Using 3-D graphics to recreate the bats’ acoustic vision and shooting with infra-red and high speed cameras,
We will take our viewers on an exhilarating "bats-eye " journey into the night!
